The extensive archive of the town of Rokycany is divided into 3 departments, which are further divided into individual groups and subgroups. It contains documents, official books and files.
Information on Jews can be found in the following documents: the census records (inv. no. 119-129); Group D - Population, due to its size divided into D I, D II and D III , with DII containing the names of domestic and foreign residents; Department I (1363-1849) containing the relevant group D - Population - Economy, entertainment, Jewish affairs, etc. (It was created artificially by collecting all the documents relating to one name. Thus, 1540 names were recorded, each of which has its own folder of documents. The names come not only from the given place, but also from the whole of Bohemia and from abroad.); Department II - the relevant group is the period of 1789-1845, group II PUBLICUM, inv. no. II/7 - Judensachen - Jewish Affairs and VI COMMERCIALE, inv. no. VI/9 - Jüdischer Handel - Jewish shops.
The fonds also contains documents on the history of Jews from the 18th and the first half of the 19th century, thematically relating to judicial and economic matters. Jews are explicitly mentioned in the following documents: inv. no. 85 Jewish register of births and deaths (Judische matrik) 1891-1932; inv. no. 129 l List of Jews during the occupation - undated; inv. no. 4853 Number of Jewish families living in Rokycany 1890; inv. no. 2791 XIV/26 Jewish community, cemetery construction (plan) 1896; inv. no. 129 l List of Jewish apartments 1942. - Archival history:
- Originally, all documents of the Rokycany municipal office were stored in rooms at the town hall, except for some parchments. The archive was organised in the 1920s. The fonds has been relatively well preserved since the 16th century. In 1973-1974, the fonds was definitively arranged and processed.
- Administrative/biographical history:
- Rokycany is one of the oldest Czech towns. The first verified record can be found in 1110 in Kosmas's Czech Chronicle. In 1789, the existing congregation of councillors and municipal elders was abolished and replaced by the so-called regulated municipality with a mayor. In 1850, Rokycany became the seat of the district office for the judicial districts of Rokycany and Blovice, and from 1855 only for the district court of Rokycany. As a result of the administrative reform of 1868, Rokycany lost its district office, and the entire district was connected to the Plzeň district office.
