- The Jewish community was originally in Kovanice, a village halfway from Nymburk to Poděbrady, as Jews were not allowed to live in Nymburk. There was a synagogue near Kovanice, probably from the 18th century, and from 1846 there was also a German Jewish school. There is a cemetery in Kovanice, where Jews from Nymburk were also buried as late as the 20th century. The Jewish religious community of Nymburk was founded in 1875, and in the same year a Jewish German school was founded. In 1891, a synagogue was built. The Chevra Kadisha in Nymburk took care of the cemetery in Křinec and in Kovanice, its statutes dating from 1877.
