District Court of Velvary

Collection

Scope and content:: The fonds comprises documents of the district court - the court agenda and the agenda of land registers. Information on Jews in the region can be found with the help of name registers. The fonds also contains a list of guardianship files, criminal files, litigation files, and misdemeanours, where it is again possible to search for Jewish individuals by name. The name registers exist for inheritance files D (1850-1854), inheritance files IV. (1855-1870), and V. guardianship files (1858-60), (1865-1870). The fonds also contains a collection of wills from 1850-1897, which may also be relevant.

Archival history:: The archival material of the court was first taken over by the archives of the Ministry of the Interior, part of the archives being stored in the Archives of the Czech Lands. These materials were taken over by the State Archives in Prague. The fonds was gradually taken over from the State District Archives in Mělník and Prague. It was processed in the 1960s and there is a handling list for it of Type I. Documents were continuously transferred into the archives until 2018.

Administrative/biographical history:: The court was established in 1850. In 1912, it has jurisdiction over 49 municipalities. In 1855-68, it was subject to the mixed district court of Velvary.

System of arrangement:: The fonds is divided into the court agenda (File material - registration finding aids and files, Collection of wills) and the agenda of land books (land books, file material).
