- Archival history:
- The fonds was obtained during the appraisal of the registry of the Ministry of Justice, carried out in the second half of 1953. Documents intended for archival storage, including some official finding aids, were taken over by the State Central Archives from October 1953 to February 1954. Between 1954 and 1969, the files of the Legislative Department were transferred to the State Central Archives.
- Administrative/biographical history:
- The Act of 2 November 1918 established the Office for the Administration of Justice, and from 1918 the name of the Ministry began to be used. The Ministry dealt with all matters of courts, public prosecutor's offices, and guardianship, depository and criminal authorities. It was headed by the presidium and its agenda was divided into three departments - legislative, judicial and criminal. In 1922, the prison department was added to it, its competence being passed to the criminal department in 1930. The branches were divided into units, which were assigned specific agendas.
