- The fonds covers nearly the entire history of Nový Bydžov, containing documents, official books, file material, accounting material, and small records. The fonds covers one of the most important Jewish communities in Eastern Bohemia. The religious community itself has its own fonds stored in Hradec Králové. The fonds contains documents, official books, file material and accounting material. Relevant documents of a general nature include inv. no. 1957 (Jewish Affairs - marriage permits, permission to the "Benzoo" exam [partly with abstracts], 1819-1892); inv. no. 1961 (Jewish affairs - usury, loans, applications, lands, etc., 1824-1897); inv. no. 2190 (Matters of the Jewish population, inkolat, 1850-1863); inv. no. 2218 (permission for begging, Jewish affairs, 1854-1855); inv. no. 2312 (Judaica - applications, correspondence, 1886).
- Archival history:
- Originally, the archives were stored in the town hall. The cataloguing of the fonds began in 1934. The archives were stored in the town museum then. In 1953, the archive material was moved to the newly established Nový Bydžov District Archives, being improperly stored there. In 1960, the archive material was taken over by the District Archives in Hradec Králové. Between 1988 and 1996, the fonds was inventoried. After 1991, all municipal and land books were added to the fonds. An inventory list has been created for the fonds.
- Administrative/biographical history:
- The first record of Nový Bydžov dates from 1186. It was a royal town. In 1855-1868, there were mixed district offices joining judicial and political administrations. Between 1850-1855 and 1868-1918, the district governor's office was located there. Nový Bydžov remained a district town until 1960. The first elected council began to operate in 1851. Later, the town was governed by a municipal committee with the mayor. The oldest record of Jews in the municipality is from the 15th century. In 1868, 1,024 Jews lived in the town. After World War II, the Jewish community was not restored. The synagogue was built in the 16th century and services were held there until World War II. There are two cemeteries, from the 16th and 19th centuries respectively.
