- Scope and content:
- The fonds is very large and covers the entire history of the city of Hradec Králové. It contains official books, deeds, file material and accounting material. Jewish-related information can be assumed in the inventory numbers 2184 and 2598. This is an extract from the register where Jews are mentioned. The numbers 2184 (restitution of Jewish property) and 2598 deal with their property, i.e. these are documents from the period 1939-1949. It is also likely that Jews are mentioned in inv. No. 381 (book of inheritance statements and divided estates [1841-1848/1878/]), inv. No. 444 (record book [1830-1855]), and inv. No. 458 (book of manorial land [1836-1877]). Books after 1850, inv. No. 2184 (restitution of Jewish property, more precisely the purchase of a villa in Plotiště, the purchase of a sawmill and a villa of Gustav Stein, restitution of Jewish property [1938-1948]); inv. No. 2598 (order on Jews, Jewish property [1939-1948]).
- Archival history:
- The oldest documents have largely not been preserved, being destroyed in the years 1873-1875. The city privileges were handed over to the district archives in 1954, and in 1960 the first list of documents was made. The inventory of the fonds began shortly before the First World War and was completed with partial breaks in 1980. After the inventory, archival finding aids were created.
- Administrative/biographical history:
-
The first record of Hradec Králové dates from 1225. In 1851, it was declared an independent town. During the Nazi occupation, Hradec was transformed into the so-called Great Hradec Králové, absorbing the adjacent small towns and suburbs. At the head of the city there was the city committee with the mayor. In 1945, the Revolutionary National Committee was established.
Jewish settlement existed there from the 14th century. The modern religious community was established in 1860, being restored after World War II. The first synagogue was built in the years 1888-1905, followed by new synagogue in 1904-1905. Its interior was adapted for the State Scientific Library in 1960. In the city there is a cemetery established in 1877.
