Scope and content:: The fonds contains documents of the political administration for the district of Písek. Jewish issues can be found mainly in the following records: changes of religion, issued identity cards, trade registers (a large number of small Jewish merchants and traders, also owners of larger industrial enterprises) and related trade files. Another useful source of information is the census for the entire district of Písek, which has been preserved from 1890, 1900, 1910, and 1921 (occasionally from 1869 - Vodňany). In the file material from the entire time period, Jewish issues are usually included in religious issues. The presidium files of the district office contain many regulations and reports, some of which concern the Jewish minority (the search is facilitated by the catalogue of the presidium files and its index). Information on factories can be found in the thematic catalogue on the history of the workers' strike movement.

Archival history:: Part of the fonds (the file handlings 1850-1904 and the oldest presidium files) was handed over to the former archives of the Ministry of the Interior in Prague in 1941. The earlier documents remained in the office's registry. In 1949, the Prague documents were handed over to the regional archives in Třeboň, from where they were transferred to the district archives in Písek in 1957, being completed with the remaining documents from the district office's registry. Official books, general and presidium files were organised in 1958-1959. In 2014, the additions were processed - a census for Vodňany 1869-1870 and a collection of maps for the water book.

Administrative/biographical history:: The Písek district governor's office was established in 1850 and its territorial jurisdiction included the judicial districts of Písek and Vodňany. As early as 1855, the governor's office became the office of political administration, and in 1868 again the district governor's office with jurisdiction over the judicial districts of Písek, Vodňany and Mirovice. In 1918, the office was renamed the Písek District Political Administration and in 1928 the Písek District Office. In 1940, the Vodňany region was separated from the territory. In May of 1945, the district office ceased to exist and the administration in the district was performed by the newly established District National Committee of Písek.

System of arrangement:: The general part of the documents is divided into books, file material and accounting books. The files are divided chronologically into eight registry plans, which copy the administrative development of the office or changes in the organisation of the registry: 1850-1855, 1855-1868, 1868-1881, 1882-1890, 1891-1904, 1905-1936, 1936-1941 and 1941-1948. Each registry plan is divided into subject groups according to the original division. The presidium files from the period of 1850-1945 are arranged chronologically and an extensive selection catalogue was made for them. The third part is the census for the district of Písek. The fonds also includes associated agendas of the district office.
