District Court of Milevsko I

Scope and content:: The fonds contains an extensive official agenda of the district court. Jewish issues can be found mainly in inheritance files, for which court registers and indexes have been preserved. Alternatively, it is possible to use the civil agenda of disputes and administrative delicts or extracts from the land books of the second half of the 19th century, which are divided according to municipalities in the district of Milevsko.

Archival history:: The earliest documents up to 1870 were taken over, in 1941-1942, by the archives of the Ministry of the Interior, where the agenda of the old land books was added, too, in 1948. In 1949-1953, the documents were transferred from Prague to the Třeboň archives, where the remaining court files from the earlier period were also handed over. From Třeboň, the archives were later transferred to the Písek archives. They have been preserved almost untouched. In 1968-1970, a proper inventory and an internal appraisal were undertaken.

Administrative/biographical history:: The district court of Milevsko was established in 1850. Its jurisdiction included 64 cadastral municipalities. In 1855-1868, a mixed district office took over its authority, which became the first instance for judicial matters. After an administrative reorganisation in 1868, the district court was restored and functioned until 1949.

System of arrangement:: The fonds is divided chronologically into three periods, which respect the original division of the file handling: 1850-1897, 1897-1923, and 1924-1949. Official books and file material are organised in each part.
