- The fonds contains documents of the self-government of the town of Písek: official books and file material. For the earlier periods, files on Jewish issues and the synagogue are collected under the number D I 78 -137, but they also contain many documents of an earlier date, for example an alleged Jewish curse in Hebrew (number D I 90). It is also possible to use the census from 1880 and 1890 (number B I 528-531) and documents on Písek families, arranged alphabetically under the number D II, where many members of the Jewish community can be found. The designation Aff includes files concerning the potash factories, one of which was called Židovna (Jewish House). For the period from the turn of the 20th century, the domicile registers of the town's inhabitants can be used, divided according to the town districts, in which it is possible to search according to name registers. For the period of the 1930s, a book with an overview of persons of the Jewish faith has been preserved, as well as records of temporarily accommodated persons, which also contain data on refugees from the border land.
- Archival history:
- The basis of the fonds is the old town registry, which was created by merging several sub-registries: those of the council office, the royal municipality office, the administrative office, the forestry office, the police office, and the court. The documents were not given much care, so they were scattered in several rooms of the former castle. This lasted until 1900, when the documents began to be organised. The period of the town office after 1850 was organised in the 1960s.
- Administrative/biographical history:
- The royal town of Písek was founded in the middle of the 13th century. The originator of the earliest documents is the municipality office, later the council office. It existed until 1788, when it was replaced by the royal municipality office. In 1850, an independent municipal office was established, which functioned until May 1945, when the town national committee was established. The Jewish minority was most numerous in the second half of the 19th century, when a large synagogue was also built. In 1871-1872, Písek even had a Jewish mayor, Dr. Izrael Kohn.

- System of arrangement:
- The fonds is divided into two large units. The documents up to 1850 (with a time span up to 1925) were arranged factually according to the entries. In addition to the town documents, documents of other authorities such as schools, guilds, associations and other organisations were also included. The books and the file material are not separated. The period after 1850 is arranged primarily chronologically into individual file handlings which are further divided according to subject groups.
- Access, restrictions:
- The collection is partly accessible.
