‘Help in Time’ Association in Kolin (Yeshuoh Beitoh)

Scope and content:: The fonds contains minutes of meetings from 1895–1929 and fragments of the file agenda from 1895–1951 of the Help in Time Association in Kolin (Yeshuoh Beitoh).

Archival history:: After the death of Karel Poláček, a representative of the Jewish religious community, the regional museum in Kolín took over the archival material in 1979. In 1980, the documents were sorted, arranged, inventoried and handed over to the district archives.

Administrative/biographical history:: The beginning of the existence of the Jewish community in Kolin dates back to the 14th century. It is one of the oldest in Bohemia. In 16th-17th century, its population was growing. In 1942, the Jewish population was deported to concentration camps. After the war, the community was restored, but in the 1950s it was dissolved.

The Help in Time association (Yeshuoh Beitoh) was founded at the initiative of the charity association caring for the poor and sick which was called Derech Yeshoro. The Help in Time association set itself the task of providing support to those who suddenly or accidentally found themselves in a difficult situation. It also supports people who are not members of the association (unlike Derech Yeshoro).
