The fonds contains documents of the municipal office: documents, books, and file material, in which one can find sources for the local Jewish community. In the period up to 1850, one can find more information, if knowing the names of the local Jewish families, in the section of municipal books - these are books of the municipal administration focused primarily on population records, such as a list of inhabitants living in houses No. 5-44, 55-90, 169-558 (1843-1857), an alphabetical list of inhabitants (1839), and a list of inhabitants (1850). After 1850, it is again the town books - a list of inhabitants (1850-1855), a list of inhabitants by name (1910-1945), a list of inhabitants by house number (1910-1945), a list of inhabitants by name (1930-1945), a list population by house number (1930-1945), a list of homeowners (1930), a list of taxpayers of the Josephine tax (1860), a list of issued domicile certificates, labourers' and work books (1898-1921), a list of issued domicile certificates (1943-1948), a list of issued land certificates (1883), a list of voters (1896), a list of school children (1873-1893), and a list of the deceased (1850).
In the activities of the police office, one may find Jewish names in the applications of door-to-door salesmen (1899, 1928), books of foreigners staying in the hotel (1908-1917), and books of foreigners (1857-1933). In the file agenda from the period up to 1850, a separate section, Jews in Skuteč, is dedicated to the Jewish population, which contains an inventory of the tenant of the house of Daniel Marcus (1784) and the unreported trade license of the Jew David Borges (1797). In the file agenda from 1850-1900 one can again find files on the Jewish inhabitants of the town among the domicile certificates, certificates of clear criminal record, and applications for citizenship (1850-1900), files concerning crafts, commerce, and trades (1850-1897), civil property disputes and undisputed matters (1850-1889). There is a separate file of religious affairs in the handling period of 1901-1945 (1925-1936). In the section Police in delegated competence, there are files concerning guardianship (1915-1944), trade matters (1913-1935) and alphabetical lists by name (1923-1945). There is also an alphabetical criminal record (1921-1945).
- Archival history:
- The fonds is held in the State District Archives in Chrudim. It was organised in 1972. The first additions were transferred to the archives in 1968. According to the new criteria, the fonds was again categorised as unprocessed in 2012.
- Administrative/biographical history:
- The first record of Skuteč dates from 1350. Skuteč belonged, from the 14th to the 19th centuries, to the Rychmburk estate. In 1850, a district office was established in Skuteč, and then a district court and a district prosecutor's office. A self-governing district was established, which functioned until 1928. There was never an independent Jewish community in Skuteč, the Jewish population first appearing in the records at the beginning of the 18th century. The Jews belonged to the Jewish community in Hroubovice and, after its demise, to that of Luže. In the 19th century, the footwear industry flourished in Skuteč, with a significant part played by a number of Jewish companies, both small ones and big factories, which operated until World War II.
