The fonds contains documents of the town of Luže, deeds, official books, and file material. Data on the Jewish population can be found in the town books concerning the inhabitants - knowing the names of the local Jewish families - e.g. Lists of persons born in Luže 1922-1941, Alphabetical list of population with the year of birth and house numbers (until 1940), List of published domicile certificates, work and labourers' books 1851-1875, Book of issued documents (work and labourers' books, residence certificates) 1882-1900, Book of issued domicile certificates 1903-194,3 and alphabetical lists from 1878-1900 and 1901-1906, Foreign municipal members by status 1900 -1917, Book of funerals of foreign Jewish members 1850-1853, Book of door-to-door merchants 1851-1897, List of issued travel documents 1851.
In the file agenda until 1850, there are a number of items concerning various Jewish inhabitants that are thematically listed by name in the inventory. Judicial matters contain files concerning individual cases of Luže Jews - for example, a protocol with David Pick and Tomáš Tausik for a suspicious purchase of parts of religious articles in 1848. Trade files contain, for example, lists of some craftsmen and the scope of their production from 1810. In the series ‘Transfers of private real estate’ one can find records of transfers between Jewish residents. In the church series, an entire section is devoted to Jewish affairs - the years 1625-1850. This includes individual matters of the local Jews with the municipal self-government, but also, for example, a list of Jews from 1836, or the Jewish community - homeowners in Luže 1939, or a list of foreign Jews buried in the Luže Jewish cemetery 1850-1852. The agenda from 1850-1900 includes inventories of inhabitants - e.g. List of members of other municipalities in Luže 1854, List of members of other municipalities purchasing real estate or being married in Luže 1854, inventories by trade 1851-1897, files of domicile and nationality 1851-1899, and domicile of the population of Luže - list 1888. Ecclesiastical matters - Jewish religion 1851-1898. The last file period 1900-1945 - Population inventories during the World War I 1915-1916, church affairs of the Jewish community 1914-1943, Care for war refugees from Galicia 1915-1918.
- Archival history:
- The fonds is held in the State District Archives in Chrudim. The documents gradually entered the Archives in the years 1968-2007.
- Administrative/biographical history:
- The first record of Luže dates from 1250. It became a town in the 14th century. The Jewish settlement was established before 1570. In 1620 there was already a prayer house and during the 17th century a religious community was established. The community was the most numerous in the middle of the 19th century, when it made up almost a fifth of the town's population (about 300 people). At that time, it was also the seat of the regional rabbi. The religious community existed there until 1940. In the years 1869-1960, Luže was part of the Vysoké Mýto district, and from 1961 it belonged to the Chrudim district.
