From the period up to 1848, a rich archive of the Jewish community has been preserved. In the period since 1848 the documents relate to the Jewish community, rabbis, teachers of religion, members of the community, fees, Czech-Jewish movement. The period of 1938-1945 includes records relating to decrees against Jews, and the “mixed marriage” of Deputy Mayor Josef Fenik.
- Archival history:
- The municipal archives were originally managed by the Municipal Office, and after 1945 by the Local National Committee in Ledeč nad Sázavou. After the establishment of the Ledeč nad Sázavou District Archives in 1958, the administration of the Municipal Archives passed to that institution (in 1959) and from there in 1961 the materials were taken over by the Havlíčkův Brod District Archives. The land books were handed over to the State District Archives in Zámrsk.
- Administrative/biographical history:
- The first (uncertain) record of Ledeč can be found in a document from 1181. More records date back to the 13th century. From the second half of the 18th century, Ledeč was donated by Maria Theresa to the Order of Poor Noblewomen at Prague Castle and Ledeč remained under their administration until 1918. In 1790, the regulated municipality office was established. In 1850, a district court was established and Ledeč became the seat of the district governor's office which lasted under various names until 1945, when the district national committee was established. Jewish settlement was evidenced since the first half of the 16th century. A synagogue and a cemetery can be found in the town.
