- Archival history:
- The archives of the town of Chotěboř contains a total of 12 documents, 595 books and 44 boxes of files. Only a fraction of the older part of the pre-1850 files has been preserved. After 1945, the archives of the town of Chotěboř were taken over by the town museum in Chotěboř and then transferred, in 1958, to the district archives of Havlíčkův Brod.
- Administrative/biographical history:
- The first record of Chotěboř dates back to 1265. The boom of mining led to the development of the settlement and later to its promotion to the town of Chotebors civitas in 1278. The Czech King John of Luxembourg promoted the market town to a town. In modern times, it was owned by aristocratic families. The development of the town in the 19th century was affected by fires in 1800 and especially in 1832, when most of the houses on the square, the inner town and the suburbs were destroyed. In 1849, the District Court of Chotěboř was established. In 1850, the District Governor's Office for the Chotěboř and Habry judicial districts was established.
