- The fonds contains documents of the municipal self-government. Due to the fact that the fonds has not been processed yet, only a handwritten catalogue of the files of the municipal office from 1806-1852 is available, where Jewish matters can be found in the following: an application of 15 September 1850 for collection of tax from the Jewish community in Batelov addressed to the Jewish community of the Vienna City Office; a protocol of 21 September 1851 on the election of Jonáš Nagl, the second clergyman of the Jewish community in Batelov; on June 1, 1852, the municipality of Soborten issues a certificate of no criminal records for Julia Taussig; on May 1, 1852, a certificate of passing the religious examination of the Jewish rite is issued for Julia Taussig from Soborten; on June 16, 1852, a certificate of passing the religious examination of the Jewish rite for Max Antscherl from Batelov; on June 24, 1852, Markus Antscherl asks permission to marry Julia Taussig from Soborten; on June 25, 1852, a request of the District Court in Jihlava was issued that Jews Vlček, Vítek and David called Ančerlák appeared in court on June 30, 1852; on 7 July, 1852, a request was issued for delivery of tax assessment to the Jewish tax officer Mojžíš Polák from Batelov; on September 13, 1852, a protocol on the election of five confidants of the Jewish community in Batelov in the presence of Rabbi Šimon Frankenstein of Batelov; on October 28, 1852, a request was made by the Jewish community to relocate the annual market in Batelov due to a Jewish holiday. There was a Jewish community in Batelov, so it is very likely that there are other files concerning Jews in the fonds.
- Administrative/biographical history:
- The market town of Batelov lies on the historic Czech-Moravian border. The first record of the village comes from 1279. Batelov was the centre of the manor which was in the hands of various aristocratic families. In 1850-1949, Batelov was included the political district of Jihlava (in 1940-1945 having its seat in Telč), in 1850-1911 it was part of the judicial district of Jihlava and in 1911-1949 part of the judicial district of Třešť. The Jewish settlement of Batelov can only be documented from the beginning of the 18th century. After 1848, the number of Jews was declining and the local Jewish religious community ceased to exist under a 1890 Act, but individual families remained there.
