- Archival history:
- The fonds was stored in Liptovský Mikuláš until the 1923 reorganisation of the public administration. A part of the fonds was transferred to Levoča where it was partly made available. In 1954, it returned to Liptovský Mikuláš. There, the fonds was arranged in 1956-1957. In connection with the new territorial reorganisation, the fonds was transferred in 1960 to the current State Archives in Žilina, based in Bytča. The arrangement of the fonds was completed in 1963-1966 when an inventory was created.
- Administrative/biographical history:
- The Liptov “Stolica” (County) was established as a state-owned self-governing institution that managed the territory of Liptov. In the 16th century, it was divided in court districts in the connection with tax determination and collection. Liptovský Mikuláš became its seat. The “Stolica” was engaged in public administrative and judicial work. In 1849-1860, the County administration was governed by a government-appointed commissioner, later the County Head Officer. After 1860, some functions of self-government were restored. After 1867, the County became a body of the executive power and its head officers were appointed. The judiciary was excluded from the jurisdiction of the County. After 1918, the County existed with small changes of competencies until the end of 1922.
