Scope and content:: In the fonds of the district office in Ilava, information on Jews can be found in the presidium and administrative files dealing with the general series and the series of passports, trades and construction from 1923-38. Relevant documents are: the report on the situation in the Jewish religious community of Ilava (1923); statistical data on Jewish religious communities in the district (1924); the report of the Jewish religious community in Ilava on the establishment and area of the district (1926); the election of the rabbi of the Ilava-Trenčin-Teplice district (1927); the list of Jewish religious communities (1929); an appeal against the election of the rabbi in Dubnica nad Váhom (1935); a request from the Jewish religious community in Dubnica nad Vahom for permission to organise a collection for the construction of the synagogue, 1937.

Archival history:: The documents had been stored in the building of the district office since its establishment, remaining there even after the Office ceased to exist. However, in 1949-1950, they were moved from the ground floor to the cellar where they were badly damaged by water. In 1954, an appraisal was carried out, and postal and accounting books were shredded. In 1956, the fonds was moved to two buildings, and in 1960 it was moved to the newly established State Archives seated in the Orlov manor. There it was arranged and inventoried.

Administrative/biographical history:: The Office was established in 1923 after a reorganisation of the public administration. It was headed by the district chief, who represented the office in public. The public authority was exercised by the district council, the number of its members depending on the size of the district, and by the district board. In 1939, the authority of the Office was limited and this situation lasted until 1945, when the Office was abolished.
