The county court in Prešov was an institution with jurisdiction over Šariš County, which had a large Jewish community.
Relevant books include protests of bills of exchange (1859-60) and orphan books (1850-60). The presidium files contain ordinances on taking oaths by Jews (1850). Important information can also be found in the land books (1854-60) and the entry of the property of Leo Holländer into the land book (1855).
Jews are also mentioned in the following documents: order for Jews to work on land; regulation on reforming the Jewish community and its statutes (1850); regulation on the scope of Jews’ property liability (1853); disputes concerning bills of exchange and testaments; Nathan Ferber's dispute with the residents of Šambron and Bajerovce over a lease (1850); matters concerning orphans and bankruptcies; Sara Fischmann's application to register a marriage contract (1851); petitions for dissolution of Jewish marriages (1850); request by Prešov rabbi Baruch Beck and his wife for the judicial testimony of their divorce (1853); recovery of debts by businessmen, confiscations of bills of exchange and appeals in the cases of bill of exchange disputes.
- Archival history:
- The fonds suffered numerous losses in the past, so it has been preserved incompletely. It was taken over by the predecessor of the Archives in 1949, and minor acquisitions were included in 1990. The fonds was organised and inventoried, with a finding aid being created in 1964. It is currently classified as fully inventoried, being temporarily deposited in the State Archives in Prešov, at the branch in Bardejov.
- Administrative/biographical history:
- The County Court in Prešov commenced work in 1850, having jurisdiction over the territory of Šariš County. In the "provisionary period" of 1850-1853, it was called the Regional Court in Prešov, and during the so-called "definitive period" of 1853-1861 it was called the County Court in Prešov. It was the second instance court of appeal against the judgments of the district courts, including the Municipal Court in Prešov (since 1854). As the first instance court it dealt with, among others, more serious civil and criminal cases, land registry matters, and was also a commercial court. It ceased to exist in 1861, when the judiciary organisation temporarily returned to the state before 1848.

- System of arrangement:
- The fonds consists of official books, registry finding aids and files. The files are divided into four groups: presidium files (1852-1860), presidium secret files (1854-1860), common series (1850-1853) and criminal justice (1855-1860). Within each group, the documents are sub-divided into registry classes and arranged in chronological-numerical order.
