- The regional court was an appellate court for civil and criminal matters. Information on Jews can mainly be found in civil disputes and probate and inheritance matters. Many files from the business series deal with Jewish companies, rentals, bankruptcies and debt and business disputes (1872-1938). The following files are relevant: investigation of riots and the fight between Jewish and non-Jewish residents in Forbasy (1920); smuggling of spirits from Galicia by a Jewish merchant (1920); defamation of the Jews and their religion in Huncovce (1924); anti-Jewish acts in Krompachy, Švedlár and Gelnica (1932), Velká and Spišské Vlachy (1935) and Levoča and Podolínec (1938).
- Archival history:
-
After the court was dissolved, the documents were moved under the administration of the District Court in Levoča, and in 1960 under the administration of the District Court in Spišská Nová Ves. The State Archives took over the files in parts in 1953-1954 and 1959-1961. Some volumes of the files are missing since they were discarded before being taken over by the State Archives. The files were processed and inventoried in parts. In 2000, a part of the fonds was re-inventoried.
The post-1949 corporate files were taken over by the District Court in Košice. In 1958, on the basis of a decision of the Ministry of the Interior, the pre-1949 corporate files were moved to the State Archives.
- Administrative/biographical history:
- After the separation of the judiciary from the county administration in 1872, the Royal Court was established in Levoča operating as the Regional Court. From the beginning, it also operated as the Mining Court for Eastern and Northern Slovakia. Other powers of the court related to the territory of Spiš County. Since 1883, the Court operated as a second instance court for criminal matters, and since 1893 also for civil disputes. After the establishment of the Czechoslovak Republic, it continued to operate as "Sedria" (county court) in Levoča, and since 1925 as the Regional Court in Levoča. The Court ceased to exist in 1949.
