- The fonds contains documents of the political administration of the district of Stará Ľubovňa. Jews are mentioned in particular in court documents from 1854-71. Relevant documents are: information on the Jewish school fund (1855); rentals of royal rights (1855); civil disputes, rent and debt litigation (1856-71); register of births, deaths and marriages (1873); list of virilists (1878); a complaint about the Jewish butcher in Litmanova (1878); a complaint by the priest of Jarabina that Jews disturbed worship by selling on Sundays (1879); and a report on Jewish schools in the district (1876).
- Archival history:
- The files of the first period were handed over to the County Archives in 1861. From the “periods of changes”, the files have been preserved with gaps. In 1955-1959, the files were categorised in the State Archives, and in 1960-1962 they were arranged. In 1997, they were inventoried.
- Administrative/biographical history:
- The district offices (Hungarian: szolgabírói hivatal) were established in 1849 as temporary public administration offices. A reorganisation took place in 1850, and another one in 1853. The district office was the lowest political-administrative unit within the county and at the same time the first instance court. It was headed by the chief district officer, who was assisted by one or two officers, with other staff being in the office, too. The judicial agenda was withdrawn and transferred to district courts in 1871. The office monitored how laws were observed, conducted the agenda of taxes, charges, military affairs, elections, and was the industrial supervisory body of the first instance. In 1860-1872 it was abolished and its authority was transferred to the office of the Magurský District. After 1872, the District Office of Popradská Dolina was established and seated in various places. In 1894, the District Office in Stará Ľubovňa was renewed. After the establishment of the Czechoslovak Republic, the structure of the office remained unchanged. The district offices were abolished in 1922.
