- The fonds contains documents of the political administration of the Levoča district. Jews are mentioned in the series of passports, trade licences and building permits and in various records. Relevant documents are: a report on Jewish families (1868); a notice about the immigration of Jews from Russia (1897); and the Association for the Support of Poor Jewish Technicians (1921).
- Archival history:
- The fonds has been well preserved. The District Office was located in the seat of the County Office and the County Archives. Documents from 1850-1860 were submitted to the Archives in 1862. Gradually, other volumes were deposited there, too. After the abolition of the Office, the files from the last period (1894-1922) were also deposited in the County Archives. In 1955-1959, the documents were categorised in the State Archives, and in 1961-1963 they were arranged and inventoried.
- Administrative/biographical history:
- The district offices (Hungarian: szolgabírói hivatal) were established in 1849, first as temporary public administration offices. A reorganisation took place in 1850, and another one in 1853. The district office was the lowest political-administrative unit within the county. It was headed by the chief district officer, who was assisted by one or two officers, as well as other staff in the office. The judicial agenda of the district was dealt with by the Municipally Delegated District Court in Levoča in 1871. The office monitored how laws were observed, conducted the agenda of taxes, charges, military affairs, elections, and was the industrial supervisory body of the first instance. The office carried out its activities until 1922 when it was abolished.
