The documents concern the activities of the surveyor’s office in Nitra and relate only to the territories of the Nitra tax district. They concern all landowners, including numerous Jewish landowners.
Documents relating to individual territories form the basis of the land register, which contains the names of landowners and their assets. Land deeds, although decommissioned, remained part of the fonds if no land books were preserved for the given territory. The land deeds also include information on landowners and their estates. The auxiliary material, which has been preserved only for some territories, includes registers of landholders and changes in ownership, indexes of landowners and descriptions of plots. Most of the documents are from 1927-50. From 1890-94, the fonds contains only descriptions of plot borders.
- Archival history:
- The fonds was taken over by the predecessor of the institution where it is now, in June of 1966, as an unorganised unit without a previous appraisal. After being taken over, the fonds was partially organised in 1968. In 1986, an appraisal was carried out, the fonds was completely arranged, inventoried, and a finding aid was made to it. At present, the fonds is classified as fully catalogued.
- Administrative/biographical history:
- The stable cadastre was established in Hungary according to the Austrian model. A tax provisional arrangement was introduced in 1850 and the definitive cadastre was introduced in 1875. In 1885, a network of offices for the cadastre was established. After the establishment of the Czechoslovak Republic, the State Geodesic Offices of the Cadastre were established in 1925. These were renamed on 1 January 1929, pursuant to Act No. 177/1927, the Cadastral Geodesic Offices. Pursuant to this Act, the Cadastral Geodesic Office was established in Nitra, too. The Cadastre included the drawing, inventory and description of all land in the state, and served as a basis for tax collecting, land ownership ensuring, and conveyancing. The Cadastral Geodesic Office in Nitra had authority over the tax districts of Nitra and Topoľčany. In 1938-1945, changes in the territorial scope of the Office were made. The original state of the affairs was restored on 1 January 1946. The creator ceased to exist on 31 December 1949.
