- Scope and content:
- The fonds includes teachers' personnel files and documents concerning new school construction, expansion of temporary successive classes, granting of definitive status to temporary successive classes and statistical data on schools including reports on the number of enrolled pupils, budgets and annual accounts and reports on the situation and conditions of schools and their educational activities. Of particular interest to Jewish history are documents concerning the Jewish Elementary School in Urmín from 1937-41 and its abolition in 1941 and the Jewish Elementary School in Nitra from 1938-40. Items of Jewish interest can also be found in teachers' personnel files.
- Archival history:
- Some documents of its predecessor, the County School Inspectorate in Nitra, are still attached to the fonds. After the abolition of the School Inspectorate in Nitra in 1949, its registry was often relocated, resulting in the loss of several documents. Part of the agenda, especially personal files, was taken over by the District National Committee in Nitra. The fonds was taken over, in 1956, by the District Archives in Nitra where an appraisal was carried out and the fonds was inventoried. The inventorying was completed in 1963. In 2013, additional documents, not yet available, were added to the fonds so it still remains only partially inventoried. Since the merging of the successor of the State District Archives in Nitra with the State Archives in Nitra in 2015, the fonds has been stored in this institution.
- Administrative/biographical history:
- The County School Inspectorate in Nitra was established on the basis of statutory articles from 1868-1876. Its successor, the School Inspectorate in Nitra, was established on 1 October 1922. Its competence was limited to the district of Nitra political district. The scope of work of the inspectorate included all issues of maternity, elementary and secondary schools, educational institutions, establishing and cancelling successive classes, some issues of schools construction, budgetary affairs, proposals for appointing teachers and adjusting their salaries. The School Inspectorate in Nitra ceased to exist in 1949 when its competence was transferred to the Department of Education of the District National Committee in Nitra.
- System of arrangement:
- The fonds contains 32 official books from 1927-1949, registry finding aids from 1881-1950 and files from 1922-1949. The only inventoried material is the files that are divided into registry finding aids and files. The files are divided into two groups. The first one is personal files, composed of teachers' personal files from 1931-1947 and cards for teachers' personal files and schools that are arranged in alphabetical order. The second group is subject files. Each inventory number of the subject files corresponds to the school concerned which are arranged in alphabetical order with the designation of the original call numbers.
