The documents concern the district notary office in Vráble and concern all aspects of its social development. Due to the large Jewish population of the district, especially in its seat, items of Jewish interest may be found in several types of documents.
Documents include the minutes of the municipal councils of Vráble from 1892-1940 and Horný Ohaj from 1907-13.
With a few exceptions, the administrative files from 1852-1941 have only been preserved in fragments. A lot of information about Jews can be found in documents on rentals of estates, including the rental of the local pub in Vráble to Šimon Roth (1903, 1909) and Jozef Löwy (1912) and the renting of municipal plots in Vrábľe to Jozef Ehrenreich (1906) and Samuel Rosenzweig (1912, 1918, 1924). It is assumed that some of these lands were also rented to other persons in later years. Items of Jewish interest may also be found in documents relating to wartime loans during the first world war (1915-18) and in lists such as the list of plots confiscated in the territories of Vráble, Dyčka and Vajka nad Žitavou due to the Žitava River adjustment (1935).
Jewish-related material can also be found in financial records such as the budget of the Jewish Elementary School in Vrábľe from 1937.
- Archival history:
- The fonds was severely damaged in the past, so virtually no presidential files have been preserved. In 1957, the fragments of the files were taken over by the predecessor of the institution where it is now. In 1962 and 1965, an appraisal was carried out, the fonds was inventoried and a finding aid was made. After discovering new significant parts of the fonds, these documents were inventoried, and in 1999 the original finding aid was supplemented. In 2008, new smaller acquisition were included in the fonds which were also incorporated in the supplement. At present, the fonds is classified as fully inventoried.
- Administrative/biographical history:
- The status of the municipal notary had been defined since 1871 by the law pursuant to which he was a full member of the municipal council with the right to vote, maintaining all the agenda as a self-government official. The District Notary Office in Vráble had authority over the town of Vráble, where it was seated, and the municipality of Horný Ohaj, and since 1924, also the municipalities of Dyčka and Vajka nad Žitavou (now part of the municipality of Lúčnica nad Žitavou). Until 1922, it was part of Vráble district, and in 1923-1938, part of Vráble political district. Until 1922, it belonged to Tekov County, and in 1923-1928 to Nitra County. In 1920, the notary became a civil servant with the right to veto resolutions of the municipal council. In November 1938, the territory of the Notary Office was annexed to Hungary as a result of the 1st Vienna Arbitration. The Notary Office in Vrábľe ceased to exist in March of 1945. The notary offices were officially abolished by the regulation of the Slovak National Council on 7 April 1945.
