The documents concern the territory subject to the Regional Gendarmerie Headquarters in Zlaté Moravce. They refer to the entire population, regardless of ethnicity or religion. Several items of Jewish interest can be found in the documents.
The files of four subject groups have been preserved, though incompletely: Public security and order (I), Apprehending military defectors (VI), Monitoring workers' events endangering public order (X) and Gendarmerie affairs (XV). In general, the fonds provides information on public and political life in the interwar period.
Within confidential files, Jewish-related items can mainly be found in subject group I and concern anti-Jewish demonstrations in Slovakia (1919). Other thematically important documents can be found in subject group X. These are mainly circulars about searches for representatives of the communist movement (1919). Jewish-related material is also presumed to be found in the reports on activities of a communist association in Levice (1919).
Also in the group of general files, items of Jewish interest can mainly be found in Group I. These are searches for persons who participated in looting (1919).
- Archival history:
- The fonds was originally taken over by the Regional Office of the Ministry of Interior in Nitra. From there it was taken over, on 21 May 1958, unorganised and incomplete, by the predecessor of the State Archives in Nitra. Incomplete fragments of four subject groups have been preserved from the original 15. After being taken over, the fonds was organised, the documents being divided into four subject groups. Subsequently, the fonds was inventoried and finding aids were produced. At present, the fonds is classified as fully inventoried and partially catalogued.
- Administrative/biographical history:
- The Regional Gendarmerie Headquarters in Zlaté Moravce was established in 1919 as a superior governing body. Its territorial jurisdiction included the districts of Zlaté Moravce, Prievidza, Krupina and Nové Zámky. Its subject jurisdiction included especially the management, coordination and supervision of subordinate district gendarmerie headquarters and gendarmerie stations. The creator of the fonds ceased to exist on 30 September 1939, and its authority was transferred to the Regional Police Headquarters in Zlaté Moravce.
