The documents of the fonds concern the municipality of Tvrdošovce and deal with all aspects of the social development on its territory. Due to the continuous presence of a large Jewish population in the municipality, Judaica are presumed to be found especially in the minutes of the meetings of the local councils from 1886-1937 and in the minutes of the meetings of the local board from 1905, 1912, 1931-1935, but also in the local protocols from 1810-1860. Among the register books there are very important registers of traders and merchants from 1888-1940.
The presidium documents have been preserved from 1925-1938. Among them there is an important circular on the arrival of Jews from Russia in 1927. The administrative documents have been preserved from 1846-1945. Judaica are likely to be found in various testaments, land registry sheets from 1864-1874, and also in the documents relating to the elections to the local councils in 1923 and 1927.
- Archival history:
- A large part of the fonds was destroyed after 1938 and later during the war in 1945. In 1953, the fonds was taken over by the District Archives in Nové Zámky, the predecessor of the institution where the fonds is stored now. In 1955, an appraisal was carried out, and in 1963 it was completely inventoried. A selective catalogue also exists for the fonds.
- Administrative/biographical history:
- Notary offices evolved from the position of the notary who was originally a non-public contractual person. The notary in Tvrdošovce was also of that type as early as the beginning of the 19th century. From the beginning of the 1870s, the position of the local or district notary was defined by the law. The notaries were regular members of the local councils with the right to vote, keeping the written agenda for them as self-governing officials. In 1920, the notary became a civil servant with the right to veto the resolutions of the local council. The Notary Office in Tvrdošovce continued to be active even after the annexation by Hungary after the 1st Vienna Arbitration in November 1938, but ceased to exist in 1945. The existence of notary offices was officially ended by the Regulation of the Slovak National Council of 7 April 1945.
