- Scope and content:
- The documents of the fonds concern the municipalities within the District Notary Office in Palárikovo and deal with all aspects of their social development. Due to the continuous presence of a large Jewish population at the seat of the District Notary Office, Judaica are presumed to be found in the presidium documents from 1928-1938. Among them, the important ones should be the trade matters from the 1930s as well as the documents relating to the 1938 elections to local councils and the elections to higher types of representative bodies. The administrative documents have been preserved from 1866-1944. Among them, it is possible to use especially the documents labeled as trade-related matters which have been preserved from the 1930s. A group of documents labeled as register files from 1895-1944 can also be of some significance.
- Archival history:
- A considerable part of the fonds, in particular the complete minutes of the local council and the register books, were destroyed during the war in 1945. In 1953, the fonds was taken over by the District Archives in Nové Zámky, the predecessor of the institution where the fonds is stored now. In 1955, an appraisal of the fonds was carried out and in 1963 it was completely inventoried.
- Administrative/biographical history:
- Notary offices evolved from the position of the notary who was originally a non-public contractual person. From the beginning of the 1870s, the position of the local, or district notary was defined by the law. The notary was a regular member of the local councils with the right to vote, keeping the written agenda for them as a self-governing official. The authority of the office covered the municipality of Palárikovo. In 1925, the municipality of Andovce, which until then belonged to a special district notary office, was included in the District. In 1920, the notary became a civil servant with the right to veto the resolutions of the local council. The notary office in Palárikovo remained active after the annexation of its district by Hungary after the 1st Vienna Arbitration in November 1938 but ceased to exist during the war in 1945. The existence of the notary offices was officially ended by the Regulation of the Slovak National Council of 7 April 1945.
