The documents of the fonds concern municipalities within the district of the Notary District in Velký Meder dealing with all aspects of their social development. Due to the continuous presence of a large Jewish population in the seat of the district of the office, Judaica are presumed to be found in several types of documents.
In the register and administrative books it is possible to use especially the register of the craftsmen from 1920-1939, the register of the non-licensed trades from 1920-1939, the register of the testaments from 1893-1949, the register of the issued domicile certificates from 1928-1939 with an index, the register of foreigners from 1928-1934, the list of members of the local council from 1894-1914, the list of members of the local council board from 1869-1875, the minutes of the local council board from 1838-1869, the minutes of the local council from 1869, 1894-1927, and the land registers of the municipality from 1870-1873.
The presidium documents have only been preserved from 1939. Among the administrative documents preserved from 1767-1945 there can be found several Judaica, or their occurrence is assumed. They include documents related to the activities of the local council and elections to it, such as excerpts from the minutes of the local council on setting a fixed fee for operating a pub from 1913-1914, list of the members of the local councils in Veľký Meder and Ižop from 1933, documents concerning elections to the local councils in the municipalities of Veľký Meder and Ižop, lists of candidates and elected members to the local council in Velký Meder from 1931, lists of candidates of individual parties for the elections to the local council, and the minutes of the election of the local council board and the local commissions from 1938. Another thematic group concerns the general electoral agenda, including the list of voters from 1880 or documents relating to the elections to the National Assembly and the district council of Komárno District from 1935. Thematically important are also documents concerning the activities of political parties, such as the register of political parties in the municipality of Veľký Meder from 1925.
Judaica are highly likely to be found in some administrative files relating to economic issues, especially in the lists and registers of traders from 1927-1938, as well as in the list of the owners and tenants of land up to 100 cadaster units from 1927.
- Archival history:
- The fonds was taken over, in 1966, by the District Archives in Komárno, the predecessor of the institution where it is still stored. After being taken over, the fonds was organised and, in 1976, a handwritten inventory was made. The fonds is currently classified as inventoried.
- Administrative/biographical history:
- Notary offices evolved from the function of the notary who was originally a non-public contractual person. Since 1871, the status of the general notary was defined by law. Also in the Notary Office in Velký Meder the notary was a regular member of the local council with the right to vote, keeping all the agenda for the council as a self-government official. The Office had authority over the municipality of Velký Meder, where it was also seated, and the municipality of Ižop (at present a part of the municipality of Velký Meder). Until 1922, the office was part of the Dvory nad Žitavou District, and in 1923-1938 it was part of the Komárno District. In 1920, the notary became a civil servant with the right to veto the resolutions of the local council. The Notary Office in Velký Meder continued after the annexation of the district by Hungary due to the 1st Vienna Arbitration in November 1938, but ceased to exist after the war in 1945. The existence of notary offices was officially ended by the Regulation of the Slovak National Council of 7 April 1945.
