It is likely that references to the Jewish population have been preserved in these documents. The finding aid mentions several Judaica. From 1851, there is a school attendance record of Jewish children from the municipalities of Zdoba, Ďurďošik, Trsťany, Nováčany, Hodkovce, Poproč, Rudník and Košická Nová Ves, a record of the money from a school collection made in the district of the Rozhanovce rabbinate, a report from the council board of the municipality of Myslava on Jewish inhabitants, and a file about the arrears of Jewish religious communities. An inventory of the Jewish families and schoolchildren of some of the municipalities of the district has been preserved from 1854.
- Archival history:
- When the District Office (Hungarian: Szolgabírói hivatal) in Rozhanovce ceased to exist in 1854, the documents were deposited together with the documents of the other abolished district offices in the Archives of Abov-Turňa County. In 1923, after the establishment of Košice County, the documents were transferred to Prešov from where they returned to Košice in 1942 (at that time part of Hungary) on the basis of an exchange of materials. In 1954, the fonds was handed over to the Archives by the District National Committee in Košice. The finding aid was created in 1978.
- Administrative/biographical history:
- The District Office in Rozhanovce was established after the abolition of the District of Košice in the northern part of its territory. It was a public administrative body, also administering some municipalities of the Moldava nad Bodvou and Ždaňa Districts. First, it was called the Slovak District because it included municipalities with the Slovak population. Later, in 1850, 11 municipalities requested for the District to be called the Rozhanovce District and the official correspondence was conducted in Hungarian. The District Office in Rozhanovce did not exist for long. After four years it ceased to exist on 28 April 1854 due to a reorganisation of the administrative authorities. After that date, the municipalities belong were include in their original districts. The agenda included supervising law enforcement, maintaining public order, population registers, health system, schools, agriculture, military, general and tax matters. It was headed by the head who was the mediating authority between the county authorities and the municipal councils.
