- Scope and content:
- The fonds is not extensive but it captures quite a number of aspects of life in the territory of Turňa County in the given period. Due to the permanent presence of the Jewish population, Judaica are presumed to be found in several types of documents. They include documents on elementary schools in Turňa County from various years. The 1881 list of conditions for receiving applications for support from the Jewish Territorial Association has been preserved. Due to the presence of these Judaica, it is highly probable that there are other documents not mentioned in the inventory mapping the history of Jews.
- Archival history:
- After the merger of Abov and Turňa Counties, the documents of the Public-Administrative Committee, together with the entire Turňa County fonds, were moved from Turňa nad Bodvou to Košice into the Archives of Abov-Turňa County. In 1951, the fonds was handed over to the State Archives in Košice together with other documents of the County. The fonds was finally arranged in 1991 when an inventory was made, too.
- Administrative/biographical history:
- Public-administrative committees were established in Hungary by law in 1876. They were supervisory and mediation bodies of public administration with relatively broad powers. Their main goal was to centralise the state power. The public-administrative committee consisted of elected and non-elected functions. The non-elected functions were mostly connected with county officials. The committee had three areas where it executed its power. It dealt with public administration matters and, in specific cases it was a disciplinary and appellate authority. The committee supervised the implementation of government regulations and municipal ordinances in the fields of roads, schools, railways, post offices and telegraphs, orphanages and public health issues. At the time of the establishment of the institution, Abov and Turňa Counties were separate. In 1882, they were merged into Abov-Turňa County. Since that year, the Public-Administrative Committee of Abov-Turňa County existed.
