- The fonds contains information on the local as well as general history, especially its economic aspects. It includes various documents from superior authorities and also various minutes and tax documents. Judaica mentioned in the finding aid are quite brief. They include, for example, instructions on Jewish registers, a report of the Royal Office about solemnising and divorcing marriages of Jews, and a report about the proper keeping of registers as well as a request from 1863 for a report from the County Court in connection with a newspaper announcement that a certain Jew has taken an oath in the synagogue. The finding aid also mentions a file on the compulsory use of the first name and surname by the Jewish population from 1864. From 1865, there is an order to seek reliable information on the representatives of Jewish religious communities and to appoint morally and politically faultless persons as well as a request for the passport of Šalamon Izák Grun's to be presented. A file on the alleged Panslavist propaganda spread by Jews sent from Russia dates back to 1867. From 1868, there is a file on the effort to unify the Jewish religion, which was connected with the schism in Jewish communities in Hungary, and a list of Jewish religious communities in the county. From 1869, there is a record in the finding aid about a call to the rabbinates to carry out repairs, or changes of surnames in the registers, and a files on the General Congress of the Jews and the rejection of the Congress decisions on the religious community organisation from the part of some communities dating back to 1870. The administrative authorities had to persuade them in that respect. From 1878, there is a file on orphans' affairs, and measures taken in respect of the high divorce rate among the Jews.
- Archival history:
- The documents of Abov County were deposited in the Archives of Abov-Turňa County until the abolishing of this county. Then the documents were taken to Hungary, and later transferred to Prešov. In 1942, they were returned to Košice (at that time the territory of Hungary). In 1954, the documents were handed over to the Archives by the District National Committee in Košice. A part of the fonds mapping the last period of Abov County was arranged and processed in 1964-1966. In 1966, an archival aid was created.
- Administrative/biographical history:
- Abov County began to be constituted as an administrative unit while being part of the royal property and structures. The royal administrative units gradually acquired the character of self-governing bodies with the exclusive participation of the nobility. Abov County was merged several times with Turňa County during its existence. The last stage of an independent Abov County lasted from 1860 to 1881. At the beginning of this period, it was headed by the principal county head appointed by the Emperor. County officials were mostly elected. After a reorganisation in 1872, the County became an independent administrative unit. It was supposed to perform the self-government and delegated administration. At that time, it was deprived of the judicial power. The officials were partly elected and partly appointed. Abov County ceased to exist in 1881 when it merged again with Turňa County, which gave rise to Abov-Turňa County existing until 1922.
