- Scope and content:
- The documents of the fonds are of particular importance for the history of the municipality and the region. They include circulars of superior authorities concerning politics, public administration, culture, technologies, and agriculture. An important source is the minutes of the council and the council board. It is possible that these official books include references to the Jewish community living in the municipality. Various registers have also been preserved in the fonds. These include, for example, the 1937 citizenship register, the register of inventoried estates of the deceased persons from 1946-1944, and the register of the associations, clubs and institutes from 1934-1943. The finding aid refers to the 1929 file regarding the list of Jewish religious communities and a permit for Jewish boy scouts to camp on Höberg hill in Spišské Vlachy from 1930, 1931, 1932 and 1933. Other documents mentioned in the aid include a flyer against Judaism, Socialism and Soviets from 1934, information on the dismissal of Jewish employees due to pressure from Germany, and instructions on the “Jewish question” in Slovakia from 1938. These documents concern the Second World War. The notary was also responsible for keeping state registers of births, deaths and marriages, regardless of religion.
- Archival history:
- The documents of the former municipal notary offices were probably deposited in the premises of the national committees of the respective municipalities. The first part of the documents of the fonds was moved to the Archives in 1956. In 2017, the registers were handed over to the Archives by the Municipal Authority in Spišské Vlachy. The first part of the fonds was made available thanks to the finding aid in 1964.

- The documents of fonds of the Municipal Notary Office have been preserved since 1895, even if the Office is assumed to have existed earlier. It was headed by the district notary who had his own and delegated authorities. His own authority included dealing, in writing, with the municipal agenda. His delegated authority included tasks which he performed on behalf of the District Office and partly of the Tax Office. In Hungary, the notary was an elected official of municipal councils. After the establishment of the Czechoslovak Republic, he became a state official appointed by the Minister of the Interior instead of being a municipal official. He was no longer a member of the self-governing bodies of municipalities, being independent of them. The Municipal Notary Office ceased to exist in 1944.
