- Archival history:
- The Archives of Rožňava has a long tradition that dates back to the 17th century. It came into being due to the official activities of the town authorities and includes collections which originated from the Archive of the Mining Museum in Rožňava, families, and individuals. The first systematic arrangements of the archival records were carried out in 1794-1801, being continued in different periods until they were taken over by the Archives. In the 18th century, the registry was located in the mayor's house, and in the early 19th century it was moved to the town house. In 1951-1969, the registry was deposited in the local national committee from where it was taken over by the State Archives in 1969. During its long existence, the fonds suffered numerous losses. In 1953-1955, an internal appraisal was carried out, and in 1978 the fonds was inventoried.
- Administrative/biographical history:
- After 1848, the municipal government underwent changes related to the political and administrative development of Hungary. Pursuant to the Municipalities Act of 1871, Rožňava fell into the category of towns with controlled municipality offices having the status of a district within the county. Pursuant to an Act of 1886, Rožňava became a town with an established municipality office, which lasted until the end of 1922. From 1 January 1923, Rožňava was a municipality with the designation of town. Until 1851, the town council also served as a first-instance court.
