The documents of the fonds concern the territory which was under the authority of the District Office in Trnava. They refer to the entire population regardless of ethnicity and religion. Only fragments of the fonds have been preserved but despite this it contains several valuable Judaica due to the existence of a large Jewish population in the district.
Only fragments of the presidential files from 1919-1922 have been preserved. Judaica can be found especially in the circulars of the superior authorities containing a warning about Jewish agitation in the Slovakia magazine (1920) and information on the founding of the Jewish Branch of the Communist Party of Czechoslovakia (1922). Information on Jews is also highly likely to be found in the list of the interned and hostages in connection with the Hungarian Red Army campaign (1919).
The general series of administrative files has been preserved from 1856-1859 and 1918-1922. The documents from the period of 1856-1859 contain, in particular, information on matters of water law, mill drives and regulation of water courses. In the documents from 1918-1922, Judaica are highly probable to be found in the registry classes marked register matters (1920, 1922), school matters (1920-1922), and medical matters (1920-1922). The same applies to documents such as issuing trade certificates (1919), landowners' requests for arraigning the fled agricultural workers (1918), or documents from the negotiations of farm workers with landowners (1920).
Information on Jews is likely to be found in the preserved military agenda such as the lists of conscripts born in 1834-1895 that come from the period of 1859-1921, the register protocol of the illegally absent persons subject to military service from 1863-1988, and the appeal protocols of persons born in 1838-1847 and 1874-1881 coming from the periods of 1863-1867 and 1922.
- Archival history:
- Only a fraction of the fonds has been preserved, with a number of documents being lost or destroyed. Part of the fonds was first deposited in the County Archives of Bratislava County. The other part was taken over in 1958 from the District Archives in Trnava by the predecessor of the institution where it is now. After being taken over, the fonds was organised in 1958, and in 1960 a finding aid was created for it. At present, the fonds is classified as fully inventoried.
- Administrative/biographical history:
- The District Office (Hungarian: szolgabírói hivatal) in Trnava was established in 1854. It was the lowest administrative authority. It did not have any judicial authority because the Municipally Delegated District Court of Trnava existed in its territory. There were frequent changes of territorial authority of the Office throughout its existence. In 1854-1860, the District was part of Horná Nitra County and then part of the Bratislava County until the end of its existence. The District ("Služnovský") Office in Trnava ceased to exist on 31 December 1922, being succeeded by the District Office in Trnava.
