The documents of the fonds concern the territory which was under the authority of the District Office in Bratislava. They refer to the entire population regardless of ethnicity and religion. Only fragments of the fonds have been preserved but despite this it contains several valuable Judaica due to the existence of a large Jewish population in the district.
The fragments of the judicial documents from 1867-1869 concern civil disputes, such as recovery of debts, debts from bills of exchange, seizures of property and entries in the land registry, which may include several documents relating to Jews. They are also very likely to be found in complaints and legal actions against tenants. In the public law documents, Judaica are presumed to be found in all three types of agendas.
The most important are registers containing a lot of information about Jewish entrepreneurs. They include, in particular, the register of trades from 1864-1922, three registers of trades (marked with letter A) from 1884-1922, a register of licenses (B) from 1885-1913, a register of industrialists (C) from 1886-1913, a register of traders (D) from 1884-1907 and a register of small retailers (E) from 1885-1914.
The general agenda files have been preserved from 1894-1919 with several gaps. The prohibition of the Talmud society from 1909 is of particular importance. Other documents relating to association activities are also part of the fonds. A large part of the preserved agenda includes economic activities of the Jewish population, e.g. applications for trade certificates (1894), reports on strikes in various companies (e.g. the Harsch Comp. in Petržalka, 1906), documents on the construction of factories (e.g. Avenarius R. Carbolineum, 1908), and on the work rules of companies (e.g. Avenarius R. Carbolineum, 1909).
Judaica are also highly probable to be found in documents concerning the public administration, e.g. lists of members of the county public-administration board and county commissions (1894) or lists of virilists (1907).
The public administration agenda also includes applications for passports (1894).
The reports on looting in 1918 are also of the considerable importance. The military agenda has only been preserved from 1859, containing lists of the additional conscripts, which may also include information about Jews.
The preserved agenda of offences includes files from 1917-1918. Judaica are highly probable to be found there.
- Archival history:
- Most of the fonds was originally taken over by the District Archives in Bratislava, from where the documents were moved, in 1956-1957, to the predecessor of the institution where they are now. Only a small part of the fonds has been preserved. The presidential files from 1854-1860 were taken to Budapest. After being moved, the fonds was organised, and in 1960 a finding aid was created for it. Due to the fact that in 1993 new acquisitions were included in the fonds, it is currently classified as partially inventoried.
- Administrative/biographical history:
- The district offices (Hungarian: szolgabírói hivatal) as public administration bodies were established on the basis of the decree of the Minister of Interior no. 434 of 25 October 1849. They were the lowest administrative authorities in the country. The District Office in Bratislava was established in 1854. In 1861-1871, it also had the authority of the lowest judicial instance. In 1872, the judicial system became independent and the territory of the Office was changed. Senec District was separated from it and some other municipalities were included, also in the following period. The District was part of Bratislava County throughout its existence. The District ("Služnovský") Office in Bratislava ceased to exist on 31 December 1922, being succeeded by the District Office in Bratislava.

- System of arrangement:
- The fonds contains official books from 1859-1922, registry finding aids from 1900-1919, and files from 1852-1922 which are arranged in chronological-numerical order. The fond is divided into two departments. The first consists of judicial documents from 1867-1869. The second includes public administration documents from 1859-1922. They are sub-divided into several series (general, military, and offences).
