- Administrative/biographical history:
- The "Stolica" (later County) was established as a self-governing institution of the estates. The Gemer-Malhont "Stolica" was founded in 1786 by the merger of the Gemer "Stolica" with the Malohont District of the Hont "Stolica". In 1790, the Gemer "Stolica" was again separated, and in 1802, the two areas merged into a single one again. Rimavská Sobota became its seat. The "Stolica" was divided into districts in connection with the determining and collecting of taxes, dealing with public administration and judicial issues. In 1849-1860, the county administration was governed by the appointed government commissioner, later the county chief. After 1860, some functions of self-government were restored. After 1867, the County became an executive body and its representatives were appointed. The judiciary was withdrawn from the authority of the County. After 1918, the County existed with small changes of authority until the end of 1922.
