- Scope and content:
- This is the personal fonds of Eduard Richter. The fonds contains the result of his research in which he recorded and documented the history, geography and historical topography of Osoblaha and the Osoblaha region. The eight-volumes of the author's manuscript were never published in full (only partial studies in the periodical Notizenblatt in the years 1867-1888, for example Zur Geschichte der Judengemeinde in Hotzenplotz, Notizenblatt, 1888, 11). In the sixth volume of the manuscript, focusing on the lives of important locals and personalities with a relation to the Osoblaha region, there is a profile of Israel Wilhelm Kohn (1796–1873 Osoblaha), an important native of Osoblaha and teacher in the local Jewish community. Kohn was also the author of articles in the German Jewish press and several pedagogical treatises and textbooks that were acknowledged and distributed during his day (inv. № 6, no page number). The eighth volume of Richter's manuscript contains a drawing of the front facade of the Osoblaha synagogue (inv. № 8, fol. 24 (20/2)).
- Archival history:
- JUDr. Hermann Mildner, a financial official and local geography researcher of the Osoblaha region, gave the manuscripts to the Provincial Archives in Opava in 1946. In 1969 the fonds was given an inventory.
- Administrative/biographical history:
- Eduard Richter was born in Osoblaha in 1821. After a career as a military doctor and private teacher he retired and lived and worked in his home town, where he got actively involved in the administration of the town as a member of the town council. He studied the history, historical topography and geography of the Osoblaha region as well as some archaeology and numismatics. The place and date of his death have not been recorded.
