- Scope and content:
- The fonds contains documents from the town of Slavkov u Brna, including: records of a border dispute with the Jewish political community in 1912, 1922-1942, renumbering of houses in the former Jewish town in 1924 and lacunal documents about the Jewish population from 1868 to 1944, including matters pertaining to the Nazi-era Protectorate of Bohemia and Moravia. From the period of the Holocaust, there is a list of Jews and mixed-race people who still lived in the town in 1943, a list of Jewish businesses and forced administration in 1940-1944. Attention should also be focused on the population records from the second half of the 19th century, the agenda of domicile right from 1850 to 1944, the census and population record matters.
- Archival history:
- The documents were originally stored at the town hall. In 1912 representatives of the town transferred documents and files to the Moravian Provincial Archives in Brno. In 1953, these records from the first half of the 20th century were handed over to the Museum and Archives in Slavkov, from where in 1957 the archive was divided, and in 1960 became part of the Vyškov State District Archives. In 1964 the State District Archives took over older materials of the fonds from the Moravian Provincial Archives (then the State Regional Archives in Brno), along with added land registers. In 1964-1971, the fonds was arranged and partially catalogued; in 2002-2005 the fonds was rearranged.
- Administrative/biographical history:
- The earliest mention of the town probably dates from 1237. From the 16th century, it was the property of the counts of Kaunitz, to whom it belonged until 1848. Slavkov was the seat of the manor to which as of the end of the 16th century the town of Rousínov, with a large Jewish community, also belonged. In Slavkov there was a Jewish community from the end of the Middle Ages, which was destroyed during the Holocaust. The self-government of the Jewish community was executed by the Jewish political community in Slavkov after 1848. After the First World War it was merged with the Christian community. In 1850-1855 and 1868-1949, Slavkov u Brna belonged to the political district of Vyškov, in 1855-1868 to the political district of Slavkov u Brna. The court district was located in Slavkov u Brna from 1850 to 1949.
