- Archival history:
- Documents created by the town administration and Municipality Office (Magistrat) were stored at the town hall. At the end of the 19th century, the older part of the Registry became part of the collections of the Town Museum in Ústí nad Orlicí. The archival records of the town of Ústí nad Orlicí were handed over to the then District Archives in Ústí nad Orlicí in 1952. Further acquisitions took place in 1959, 1978 and 1985.
- Administrative/biographical history:
- The settlement of Ústí nad Orlicí shared the fate of the Lanšperk and later Lanškroun manor until 1850. The first written mention of the town is from 1292. There are no other direct archival records concerning the town; the first surviving charter from 1499 explains this fact by a fire in 1498. In 1784 a Municipality Office (Magistrat) was established due to the Josephinian Reforms. In 1795 the town was declared to be a free municipal town. It has been the seat of the District Court since 1850. In 1925, Hylváty municipality was annexed to Ústí nad Orlicí. The municipality was annexed to the Sudetenland in the fall of 1938; thus the town became a border town.
