- The fonds comprises documents of the municipal administration of Ostrožské Předměstí. The building files are of particular interest. They include the item Building modifications around the Jewish Cemetery 1931, which the layout map of Ostrožské Předměstí from 1928 could also relate to. The building files also contain Conversion of the house of R. Kohn 1911-1912. Attention should also be paid to census records of 1880. From the period of the Holocaust, the fonds contains the item Lease of Jews’ plots of land 1944.
- Archival history:
- Until 1850, no municipal registry office effectively existed for Ostrožské Předměstí. Only in the second half of the 19th century did documents begin to be stored in the house of the mayor, later at the town hall. Only after 1918 was the municipality’s agenda administered in a standard way. The registry office suffered significant losses during flooding in 1910. After merger with the town of Uherský Ostroh, documents from Předměstí were taken over by the Municipal National Committee Uherský Ostroh, from where they were handed over in 1956 to the District Archives in Veselí nad Moravou and were transferred by its successor to the District State Archives in Hodonín, after administrative reorganisation in 1962 to the District State Archives in Uherské Hradiště. The fonds was created by sorting from the fonds of the town of Uherský Ostroh and arranged in 1975.
- Administrative/biographical history:
-
The municipality of Ostrožské Předměstí was first mentioned in 1400. It was created in the direct neighbourhood of the town of Uherský Ostroh, on which it was greatly dependent throughout the whole of the Middle Ages and the early modern age. Until 1848, Předměstí was part of the Uherský Ostroh manor, subsequently an independent municipality. Thanks to its economic and demographic development, the status of Předměstí was raised in 1912 to that of a market town. Ostrožské Předměstí was merged with the town of Uherský Ostroh in 1950.
There was no Jewish community in Ostrožské Předměstí. It was, however, influenced by the activities of the Jewish community in neighbouring Uherský Ostroh. Particularly after 1848 Jews started to do business in Předměstí and settle there.
In 1850-1855 and 1868-1949, Ostrožské Předměstí belonged to the political district of Uherské Hradiště and in 1855-1868 to the political district of Uherský Ostroh. In 1850-1949, it then belonged to the judicial district of Uherský Ostroh.
