- Scope and content:
- The fonds contains official materials. Documents relating to the district’s small Jewish population include information about the Kaufmann Brothers company from Písečné, 1909–10 (design and construction of the factory, labour rules, workers' strike), documents of the Jewish religious community in Moravské Budějovice, 1924 and the statutes of the burial society in Jemnice, 1909. From the period of the Protectorate there is information about the persecution of the Jewish population: lists of Jews, reports of house searches, lists of Jewish shops and circulars about anti-Jewish measures. Attention should also be paid to census records from 1859 for the municipality of Písečné as it was home to a Jewish political community. The presidium files include information from 1919 about the growth of the anti-Jewish movement and the printing of anti-Jewish leaflets and reports about a suspicion of weapons hidden in a Jewish apartment in Moravské Budějovice, and directives, circulars and regulations against the Jewish population from 1939–44.
- Archival history:
- The files were deposited at the registry office of the district national committee in Moravské Budějovice and transferred in 1958 to the state district archive in Telč, where the fonds was arranged and inventoried. In 1965 the fonds was transferred to the state district archive in Třebíč and deposited at its branch in Moravské Budějovice. Files from the state district archive in Znojmo were added and the fonds was rearranged and a new inventory created in 1971. In 1974 a catalogue of the presidium files was created.
- Administrative/biographical history:
- The district office was established in Moravské Budějovice in 1896, when the judicial district of Moravské Budějovice was detached from the district of Znojmo and the judicial district of Jemnice from the political district of Dačice. The town had previously been the seat of the judicial district (1850–55, 1868–96) and the mixed district (1855–68) that were subject to the district office in Znojmo. In 1945 the district office became the district national committee, but in the meantime its territorial jurisdiction was changed several times, most notably in 1938 when some municipalities were annexed by Nazi Germany after the Munich agreement and non-annexed municipalities from the districts of Znojmo and Moravský Krumlov were added to the district of Moravské Budějovice. In 1945 the district office, later the district national committee, was established with the same jurisdiction as before the Munich agreement. From 1896–1911 the district office of Moravské Budějovice included the Jewish political community of Písečné, falling under the judicial district of Jemnice.
