- Scope and content:
- The fonds contains documents of the municipality of Žalany. Records of the Jewish population can be found mainly in the file Jews-general provisions, 1939–42 (inv. 82). Jewish issues can also be found in the 1939 census (inv. 64) and the population register, 1929–39 (inv. 166).
- Archival history:
- The history of the fonds is not known. It was arranged and inventoried in 1983.
- Administrative/biographical history:
- The first record of the municipality dates from the early 15th century. Hops were grown there and in the 18th century coal mining began. The Maximilian pit was opened in 1902, followed by others including Frieda II and Phönix. A German two-year school was built in 1910 and a Czech school in 1926. The character of the village was German as early as the 17th century. The municipality of Žalany also included the settlements of Lelov and Starosedly. Starosedly merged with Žalany in 1927.
