- Scope and content:
- The fragmentarily preserved fonds contains records of the activity of the municipal office in Stříbro. Older official books (before c. 1650) are very well preserved, but the newer documents were partly appraised in the 19th century. There are also considerable gaps in materials until 1945. Deeds, land registries, chronicles, accounting books, population registers and fragmentary files can be found in the fonds. The files from 1933–45 are preserved only partially. Information about the Jews of Stříbro may be found among population registers from the first half of the 20th century. Some files have been removed from the fonds and are stored in boxes III and IV, labelled Nazi occupation action. These files concern the administration of Jewish property and requests by the town for confiscated Jewish property.
- Archival history:
- Most of the fonds was acquired in 1956 and further records have since been added.
- Administrative/biographical history:
- The municipal office in Stříbro began operating in 1850, succeeding the municipality office (Magistrat). Municipalities (Gemeinde) became the lowest components of self-administration in 1850, with independent authority (such as administration of municipal assets, domicile agenda, security and care for the poor) and transferred authority (such as guardianship, election, warrant, tax and military matters). The operation of the municipal authority was terminated in 1945.
