- Scope and content:
- The fonds contains records of the operation of the lowest judiciary level. Indexes of virtually all file numbers, orphan books, books of deeds, old land registers and fragments of files are preserved. Files regarding the land registry agenda, including collections of deeds, excerpts from land registers, certificates of holding and protocols for filing new land registers are preserved most completely, along with the guardianship and custodial care agenda (IV, P) criminal agenda (U, T) and testaments. In terms of Jewish history, the deeds for land registers are of primary importance. They are stored in the archives for 1851–1910 and contain files regarding Jewish property and the property of Jewish religious communities. Jewish-related documents may also be found in other parts of the fonds, for example the legacy file for Paula Abelesová of Tachov, who died in 1936.
- Archival history:
- The records of the district court in Tachov were taken to the Tachov state district archive in 1962 from the state archive in Plzeň. Since then 14 further acquisitions have been made, the last in 2014.
- Administrative/biographical history:
- The district court in Tachov began operating on 1 July 1850 and became became the criminal court for the district courts in Přimda, Bezdružice, Planá and Teplá, thus having criminal jurisdiction in all criminal proceedings except those ordered to land courts. The court also dealt with undisputable agenda such as inheritance, guardianship, custodial care, divorces, adoption and land registers. In 1855 the political and judicial administrations were merged and Bezirksamt (political and judicial district offices) were established, the judicial agenda was still kept separately. The only change took place in criminal courts, which were replaced by courts of inquiry. In 1868 the judicial administration was again separated and district courts were re-established. Special criminal courts of inquiry were abolished in 1873. After the annexation of part of Czechoslovak territory by the German Reich, district courts were replaced by Amtsgericht operating under German jurisdiction. The district courts were restored to their September 1938 status in 1945 . The remit of the district court in Přimda was transferred to the district court in Tachov until the closure of the Přimda court district in 1949.
