- Scope and content:
- The archive of the district court in Planá is the best-preserved district court fonds in the Tachov state district archive. Indexes of virtually all register numbers and land registers, along with almost complete file collections, are preserved. Files regarding the land registry agenda, including collections of deeds, excerpts from land registers and holding certificates, are preserved most completely. In terms of Jewish history, the deeds for land registers are of primary importance. A complete collection of files is stored in the archives for 1850–1938 and 1945–49 and files regarding Jewish property and the property of Jewish religious communities can be found there. Jewish-related documents may also be found in other parts of the fonds.
- Archival history:
- The bulk of the records of the district court in Planá was taken to the Tachov state district archive on 1 July 1966 from the Plzeň state archive in Kadaň. Eight acquisitions have since been made, the last in 2010.
- Administrative/biographical history:
- The district court in Planá commenced its operation on 1 July 1850. It was under the jurisdiction of the criminal court, later the court of inquiry, in Tachov until 1873. The court dealt mainly with undisputable matters, such as inheritance, guardianship, custodial care, divorces, adoption and land registers. In 1855 the political and judicial administration were merged and Bezirksamt (political and judicial district offices) were established, though the judicial agenda was still kept separately. The only change took place in the criminal courts, which were replaced by courts of inquiry. In 1868 the judicial administration was again separated and district courts were re-established. After the annexation of Czechoslovak territory to the German Reich the district courts were replaced by Amtsgericht operating according to German jurisdiction. District courts were restored to their September 1938 status as of in 1945. The remit of the district court in Bezdružice was transferred to the district court in Planá until its termination on 31 January 1949.
