- Scope and content:
- The fonds contains documents of the administration and self-government of the town of Březová nad Svitavou. Only a few inventory units concern the Jewish history of the region: Jews (without further specification), 1803 (inv. 1288, box 22) and Jewish affairs (without further specification), 1850 (inv. 1834). Other documents concerning the Jewish population may be found in registers of municipality inhabitants, which include entries on Jews living in the town, though entries are ordered by house number or names rather than religion.
- Archival history:
- Towards the end of the Second World War, most of the documents from 1938–45 were destroyed. Subsequently the care of archival records was the responsibility of local school headmasters, who made only rough and inaccurate registers. The records were stored in the district national committee building and transported in 1965 to the district archive in Polička, where they were arranged in 1965–67 and inventoried in 1967. The land registers from the state archive in Brno were also added to the archive.
- Administrative/biographical history:
- The town of Březová was founded around 1300 in the Svitavy manor, the property of the Olomouc bishopric, which held it until 1848. A controlled town council was established in 1788. In 1850 Březová became part of the Svitavy judicial district and thus of the Moravská Třebová political district. In 1938 it was subordinated to the Landrat (district councillor) in Svitavy. In May and June 1945 a local district national committee was established.
