- The fonds contains documents of the political administration of the Hranice district, mainly from after 1900. Census records are filed for the Jewish political community of Hranice from 1857–1910, and for the Jewish political community of Lipník nad Bečvou from 1857 and 1880–1910. Records of Jewish inhabitants in Hranice and Lipník nad Bečvou and lists of their property have survived from the time of the Protectorate. Many other documents applying to the Jewish political communities of Hranice and Lipník nad Bečvou and to the time of the Protectorate are contained in political, trades and association paperwork. The original registry finding aids of the creator can be used for a more detailed search. The catalogued presidium files also contain more general documents, including information about decrees of central authorities concerning Jews.
- Archival history:
- In the 1950s the fonds was taken over by the state archive in Janovice u Rýmařova, where a provisional list was made. In 1962–63 the fonds was transferred to the district archive in Přerov. It was incrementally augmented from the registry of the district national committee of Hranice. In 1968–77 the presidium files were catalogued. An inventory was made in 2005. The inventory and the first part of the catalogue are available on www.archives.cz.
- Administrative/biographical history:
- The district head office in Hranice was founded in 1850. In the years 1855–68 a political and judicial district office the political and judicial body of first instance in Hranice. In 1868 the district head office was revived with a reduced territorial scope (and a changed name after the foundation of Czechoslovakia), active up to 1945. In 1942–45 the territorial scope of the office was expanded to the Bystřice pod Hostýnem court district. The Jewish communities in Hranice and Lipník nad Bečvou (political and religious) were in the territory of the political district of Hranice.
