- A set of works on Sigmund Freud and accompanying documentation is the third and smallest part of the personal collection of Josef Sajner and includes manuscripts and prints of published articles and lectures by Sajner on Freud’s childhood in Příbor and his family’s relationship to Příbor and Moravia, accompanied by excerpts, notes and photographs and augmented by studies and documents of the Freud family’s spa stays in Rožnov pod Radhoštěm, Karlovy Vary, Mariánské Lázně and Piešťany. The documentation is complemented by extensive correspondence with Freudian scholars and friends from around the world, with commentaries on Freudian literature, archival documents and memorabilia, some from the Příbor period.
- Archival history:
- The collection was offered to the archives by Prof Sajner’s family according to his will. Documents were placed in the archives in 1994.
- Administrative/biographical history:
- Prof Josef Sajner, MD PhDr CSc (1909-92) was an outstanding Freudian scholar who worked with and processed documents from the Freud family’s time in Příbor. He was head of History of Medicine Studies at the Department of Social Medicine of Masaryk University in Brno. He published the study ‘New archival findings about the childhood of Sigmund Freud’ in 1967 in collaboration with Dr Renée Gicklhorn, director of the Vienna Freud Museum, and Dr. F. Kalivoda, and other studies in Czech and foreign journals.
