Scope and content:: The archive is a valuable source for the study of political, economic, industrial, social and cultural development of Nový Jičín district from 1850-1938. Especially important are presidium files recording national conditions and the development of the labour movement. Jewish history is reflected in regulations, circulars of the provincial office in Brno (immigration of Jews in the territory of Czechoslovakia), a warning about antisemitic leaflets from Germany and correspondence with Jewish religious community in Nový Jičín, all from 1932-38; guidelines for monitoring German Jews trying to settle in Czechoslovakia, 1938; dismissal of Jewish employees on the orders of German authorities, 1938; and illegal dissemination of anti-Jewish leaflets in Šumperk, 1938.

Archival history:: The collection was transferred from the provincial archive in Opava in 1959-62. The presidium files were catalogued between 1960 and 1973. The inventory was created in 2012.

Administrative/biographical history:: Nový Jičín Bezirkshauptmannschaft (district head office) was established on 1 January 1850. From 1855-68 it functioned as a political office, the district court existing separately. The office ceased to exist in 1919 and was replaced by the district political administration (1919-26). and the district office (1926-38). The Jewish religious community of Nový Jičín came under the district office’s administration.
