- Archival history:
- The documents of the municipal office, later the town office, in Horní Jiřetín were handed over to the town archives in Horní Litvínov in 1954, where they were partly arranged. In the district archives in Most another internal appraisal was carried out and an inventory was created in 1970. During the 1988 general inventory the rest of the unprocessed material from the Nazi occupation period was collected, and in 1997 building documents from Horní Jiřetín were added to the fonds. The final processing of the fonds and its rearrangement were conducted in 1997.
- Administrative/biographical history:
- The first record of the village of Jiřetín (German: Obergeorgenthal) dates from 1408. From 1623-1848 it belonged to the manor of Duchcov. After the 1848-50 administrative reform it belonged to the judicial district of Most until 1905 and to the judicial district of Horní Litvínov from 1905-38. From 1850-1938 it was part of the political district of Most. In 1914 it was given town status. From 1938-45 it belonged to the Reichsgau Sudetenland, Landkreis (rural district) of Most.
